Harrogate Skatepark

The Story

Sk8 Safe has worked with Harrogate Borough Council for the last three years in order to help them engage, and understand the needs of their Skate Park users. The Skate Park was a new build in a prestigious park so it was vital that this new facility integrated well. Sk8 Safe initially ran a series of Skate Park Etiquette sessions at the park. “It was an overwhelming success, wanting to build on this our team could see more was needed to ensure community cohesion. Later in the long term relationship with the Council and the Park Sk8safe launched the Skate Park Ambassadors scheme for the park. Harrogate Borough council embraced the idea and so did the users.”
Sarah Agar-Brennan, Director, Sk8 Safe Ltd.

The Results

“The Sk8 Safe work has included etiquette training, the Ambassador programme and organising the annual skate jam. These programmes and events have proved invaluable in aiding the management of our Skate Park and hopefully ensuring Skate Park users feel engaged and have a sense of ownership.”
Patricia McLaughlin, Parks Development Manager, Harrogate Borough Council.

Results where it really matters -
The Skate Park Ambassadors Scheme

“Please pass on our compliments to the young man who supervises the Skate Park. He introduced himself to us and gave us helpful information about the skate park and safety issues. The young people using the park were friendly, safety conscious and polite, thanks to his obvious good relationship with them. We will be taking our grandchildren there again, even though we live in Leeds. “

Long Term Strategy

The intention from the start of the project was to aid the integration of the Skate Park in the Valley Gardens, Harrogate. “Sk8 Safe has delivered objectives set at the start of each programme and met always with room for flexibility. Staff are responsive and understand the needs of clients and users.”
Patricia McLaughlin, Parks Development Manager, Harrogate Borough Council.
