Heaton Security Centre

The Story

Sk8 Safe were invited to Heaton’s Children’s Centre in spring 2011.  The aim was to provide an avenue for disadvantaged children to participate in a non-traditional sporting activity in the hope that they would improve their balance, self-worth and overall health. Heaton Children’s Centre having secured funding wanted to implement a complete skateboard coaching solution, Sk8 Safe naturally were there chosen supplier.

The Results

“Sarah and her team were really responsive and within weeks of the initial contact we had completed our Level 2 Nationally Accredited Sk8 Safe Course and were under way.  Sk8 Safe then returned to manage a session with our qualified team as further training.”

Results where it really matters

“The children really enjoyed the day and it gave them an appetite for the activity.  You could see straight away how the programme impacts positively on the child’s self-esteem and confidence.  Many of the children who attend our school experience challenges in their lives, so the programme provides the children with a great sense of achievement and self-belief.”
James Mawson Forest School Leader.

Long Term Strategy

The intention from the start of the project was to achieve longevity through training 2 members of their core team. They attended the one day Sk8 Safe Level 2 Accredited Training Programme and now conduct the activity all year round with no need for further investment.  They run a self-maintaining programme.

Time for Action

“The Sk8 Safe team are professional, friendly and approachable and the young people have responded to them really well and this has helped build their self-esteem and confidence.  Skateboarding is a non-aggressive alternative to traditional team sports and as such through the Level 2 training we can now facilitate this activity independently. Heaton Children’s Centre would have no hesitation in recommending Sk8 Safe.”
