The course lasts 8 hours and carries 1 credit. Successful learners will be able to go back to their organisation upon competition and facilitate skateboard sessions with their Level 2 qualified Essential Coaching Skills: Skateboard Coach.
At Sk8 Safe believe in learning through doing so a large part of the day is spent on a skateboard learning the basic skills.
The day also comprises of the following:
• Role of a Sk8 Safe Young Sports Leader
• Aims and Benefits of Sk8 Safe
• Safety Equipment
• Anatomy of a Skateboard
• Step by Step Guide to Building a Skateboard
• Practical Board Skills
• Skate Park Etiquette
• Role of a Young Sk8 Safe Leader on a Skate Park
Throughout the day the learner is assessed using varying techniques so all learning styles are catered for.
How does this course differ from the Level 2 Essential Coaching Skills?
There are no modules for Risk Assessment and Assessing Learners in this course. Young Sports Leaders purely experience the more practical aspects of facilitating Skateboarding. The assessments also differ in that there are more observational.
